Keeping Our Kids Safe
is a multi-level, abuse
prevention curriculum that has been adopted by the
Baldwin County School System. This curriculum
utilizes a comprehensive approach with three
elements:
1. Awareness - The
giving of safety information to children.
2. Assertiveness -
The teaching of skills and decision making abilities
to children.
3. Access -
Teaching children that there are adults who will
help them when they need it.
TransParenting is
a four hour educational program about the needs of
children during and after the divorce of their
parents. Topics include typical reactions of
children, skills that help children cope, and
visitation issues. The Circuit Judges of Baldwin
County require all divorcing parents to complete
this program.
Rollercoasters
is a program for children whose families are
experiencing a divorce, a separation, or remarriage.
Children are helped to develop hope and confidence
about their futures. Parents can expect their child
to learn ways to manage their feelings, process
their anger, and develop new coping skills.
Classes are offered to children ages 5-12, in two
age groups (5-8 and 9-12). Classes meet weekly for
eight weeks. Class size is limited to eight children
per class.
Counseling Program -
CARE House provides
individual, family, and group counseling to child
victims of sexual abuse and severe physical abuse
and their supportive family members at no charge.
These services are provided by licensed master's
level counselors at both of our CARE House
locations.
Solutions - The
goal of the program is to ensure community safety by
providing early intervention, education, and
treatment to identified sexually reactive youth.
These services are provided by therapists who are
certified to treat juvenile sex offenders. The
program provides the skills and tools necessary for
youths to recognize and manage their sexually
aggressive behaviors; thus affording them a much
greater chance of controlling impulses and leading
non-assaultive lives.
Family Advocate
is a program designed to offer emotional support to
the non-offending caregivers of sexually abused
children. Family Advocates are available to make
referrals for counseling, job training, medical
assistance, transportation, or child-care. They are
trained to work one-on-one with the caregiver and
help them reclaim their lives.
The
Multi-disciplinary Team
utilizes discussion and information sharing
regarding the investigation, case status and
services needed by the child and family. These
meetings occur on a routine basis. The
Multi-disciplinary Team is comprised of
representatives from Law Enforcement, Baldwin County
Department of Human Resources, District Attorney's
office, Medical Personnel, Victim Advocates and the
Child Advocacy Center. This team approach helps
minimize trauma to child victims of abuse and
neglect.
Court School
is provided to children
and their supportive family members prior to
appearing in court. This program helps reduce
anxiety by familiarizing them with the courtroom and
explaining the upcoming court process.
